Accessibility Release Notes

Purpose
These release notes summarize accessibility improvements across Viaplay platforms. The updates are aimed at ensuring compliance with accessibility regulation while making core features more inclusive and easy to use and find.


April 2026

Including accessibility improvements up to April 2026.

Web

  • Improved support for audio description and alternative audio tracks, making it easier to discover and select accessible audio options for on‑demand content.
  • Improved screen reader support and semantics in package presentations, including clearer headings and anchor links for better navigation.
  • Improved localisation and clarity of interface controls, such as “more / less” buttons, for users relying on assistive technologies.
  • Improved layout on mobile devices by stacking package presentation cards vertically, increasing readability and ease of navigation.

Android

  • Improved screen reader support for navigation and actions, including clearer and localised labels for back buttons, profile actions and key user interface controls.
  • Improved TalkBack experience by removing duplicate announcements on action buttons, so controls are announced once and in a more understandable way.
  • Improved accessibility of IMDb information, including clearer descriptions and reduced screen reader noise from decorative elements.
  • Improved readability and visual clarity on TV devices, ensuring dialog text no longer overlaps background content and remains easy to read.
  • Improved overall usability for assistive technology users by adding meaningful content descriptions across key screens such as profiles and content details.

iOS

  • Improved VoiceOver support across navigation and forms, including clearer labels and guidance when filling in signup fields.
  • Improved support for dynamic text sizes, ensuring navigation bars, IMDb information and season selection layouts work better with larger accessibility text settings.
  • Improved clarity of key controls, such as the switch package button, so screen readers announce actions more clearly.

Big Screens

  • Improved menu navigation using mouse input, resulting in more predictable behaviour and smoother interaction for users who do not rely on remote control only.

Web

  • Improvements on VoiceOver and tab navigation for a smoother experience when “skipping intro”.
  • Improved accessibility when hovering over Rent & Buy or Sport content to ensure content information is visible.
  • Improved visibility (contrast) when hovering over text-links.
  • Improved button width for “See more content” buttons to prevent unintentional clicks.
  • Improved internal tooling to reduce code errors related to accessibility.

Android

  • Added a play/pause option on automatically playing content on Product pages on mobile devices.

iOS

  • No updates.

Big Screens

  • No updates.

September 2025

Web

  • Improved screen reader support for package comparison in My account and in the purchase flow.
  • Improved ability to select categories (like documentaries, action, comedy) when using screen readers.
  • Added avatar image description for screen readers on the profile overview page.
  • Fixed wrong checkbox state on the create/edit profile page.
  • Screen reader navigation improvements to ensure navigation does not skip rows of content (so called blocks) or links.
  • Improved screen reader support when reading out time in the sports section.
  • Corrected label for screen readers when hovering over sports short clips.
  • Improved possibility for screen readers to read out price for rent & buy content.
  • Fixed missing layout and contrast options in the subtitle settings in player.
  • Added possibility to change from original audio to complimentary audio tracks, such as Audio descriptor and Spoken subtitles, in player settings.
  • Made sure to always show play/pause button on automatically playing content.
  • Improved navigation with screen readers for the country selector on main pages.
  • Improved readability with better contrast and styling for check boxes.
  • Improved colour contrast, input fields and buttons on the check out page.
  • Added screen reader support for progress bar in the sign-up flow.

Android

  • Added Accessibility statement link in Settings to provide easy access to accessibility-related information.
  • Added content description for buttons on Product page and “My list” and “More” info buttons for better TalkBack support on mobile devices.

iOS

  • Added Accessibility statement link in Settings to provide easy access to accessibility-related information.

Big Screens

  • Added support for pausing automatically playing content on Main Sections via remote control.
  • Minor improvements on general navigation reliability and accessibility on LG devices in main section.
